The Origin of Front Vowel Nominal Prefixes in Berber

Besides the regular noun prefix a-/ta- most Berber languages possess a much less common prefix i-/ti- or e-/te-. This paper examines the origin of these prefixes, and shows that they were originally phonetically conditioned allophones of the a-/ta- prefix.
