TY - JOUR T1 - Die Anfänge der chinesischsprachigen Literatur auf Taiwan im 17. Jahrhundert PY - 2018 N2 - In the course of the 17th century, literature written in classical Chinese emerged in Taiwan. Its authors were not born on the island, but Ming loyalists who fled from the Qing troops. So far, their literature has been neglected by western researchers. This article attempts to provide an overview of this field by analyzing the poems of Shen Guangwen, Xu Fuyuan and Zheng Jing. Moreover, it shows that the colonization of Taiwan enriched classical Chinese literature by introducing a relatively new topic: travelling the seas, i. e. crossing the Taiwan Strait, which was not only an impressive and often dangerous experience, but also a unique one within the Chinese Empire. Many literati who were sent to Taiwan wrote about their trip and thereby firmly established this motif in Chinese literature.
