Yāḻppāṇa Vaipava Mālai, Kailāya Mālai und Vaiyāp Pāṭal: Kulturelle Wahrnehmungen in der historischen Literatur der Jaffna-Tamilen %X SummarySince the late 19th century, the Yāḻppāṇa Vaipava Mālai, a compilation and addition of two earlier chronicles, Kailāya Mālai and Vaiyāp Pāṭal, has become the definitve point of reference for Sri Lankan Tamil identity. The article translates and examines three episodes that are narrated in all three chronicles and highlights their significance for Sri Lankan Tamil identity and historical legitimacy of rule. All three have become myths of origin and foundation for the Jaffna consciousness.
