TY - JOUR T1 - La relation génitivale en vieil araméen (Xe–VIIe siècles av. J.-C.) PY - 2012 N2 - SummaryIn the earliest stages of the history of Aramaic, two main constructions express the genitive: the construct relation and the periphrastic genitive with the particle zy. The present study explores the use of the periphrastic genitive with zy in Old Aramaic from its earliest testimonies in the 10th/9th century up to and including the 7th century bce. It is composed of two parts. The first discusses the use of these constructions in the 7th century bce (Neo-Assyrian period) and considers the interactions between the genitive construction with zy and prepositional periphrases with l- or mn. The second part addresses the scarce and often puzzling use of the periphrastic construction with zy in the 10th–8th centuries bce. An attempt is made to assess the degree of uniformity found in the expression of the genitive in these two historical phases of Old Aramaic and to appraise the alleged influence of the Akkadian construction with ša on the development of the construction with zy in Aramaic.
