Triggered by a remark in Ratneśvara’s commentary on Bhoja’s Sarasvatīkaṇṭhābharaṇa, this contribution studies the reflections of the old Āyurvedic texts on disorders related to the milk of breastfeeding women who become pregnant again. The conclusion is that two pathogenic conditions are described, namely pārigarbhika and garbhaja phakkatva, related respectively to the quality and, probably, the quantity of the milk, but that the notions on these two conditions have in the course of time, and even more in the present day, become commingled with each other, and also with those on other disorders, so that their ancient garb is no longer easily discernible.
