K. C. Pandey’s dating of Bhāskarakaṇṭha to the 18^th century was questioned some fifteen years ago and as a result it was shifted to the 17^th century on the basis of some autobiographical information. The present paper aims to show that this information has actually been misinterpreted, and hence this redating should rather be abandoned. In addition, Bhāskarakaṇṭha’s categorization of the various fields of knowledge that appear in the text passage containing the autobiographical information is also examined here.
