The following article suggests the meaning “eyelashes” for the Akkadian word eppepīʾātu and “eyelid” for the corresponding Biblical Hebrew word ʿapʿap. Other suggested identifications of Akkadian words include: šuʾru/šurʾu “eyebrow,” šimtu “ eyeshadow”and kakkulti īni “iris.” For the four expressions ṣulum īni “black spot of the eye,”abni īni “stone of the eye,” awīl(ti?) īni “man/woman(?) of the eye” and makūt īni “ pole/ figurine of the eye,” the meaning “pupil” is suggested.
