Chadic languages—approximately one hundred and fifty—represent a foreign body among the autochthonous Niger-Congo and Nilosaharan languages in the central Sudan. Most of them have undergone enormous processes of transformation when immigrating from their pre-Saharan homelands in the north and change due to their exposition to the linguistically completely heterogeneous environment. Each one of them is a unique outcome resulting from that confrontation. The article aims at demonstrating the path and steps of evolution from those languages (“archimorphous”) that have preserved a great deal of their original heritage, e. g. Mubi in eastern Chad, to those (“metamorphous” ones) which have experienced radical changes in their original linguistic outfit, e. g. Ngas in central Nigeria.
